Schiphol is a single terminal, which keeps the meeting simple, but coaches load a short walk away from arrivals. Knowing that in advance saves your group a moment of confusion after a long flight.

From Schiphol Plaza to the Koepelstraat passage

Everyone arrives into Schiphol Plaza through Arrivals 1-4. Since 2 September 2024, coach passengers board at the Koepelstraat arrival passage, roughly a five-minute walk from the Plaza. When it gets busy, a host looks after coach passengers and their drivers there, which helps when a large party is moving together.

For a family or a small team, an executive car or van is the simplest option. For 10 to 19 people, a minibus keeps everyone together with room for cases at the back.

Terminals

Worth knowing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

  • A host is available for coach drivers and passengers at busy times.
  • P41 has a drivers waiting area and toilet; about 10 min drive to the terminal.

Why the coach is waiting at P41

Coaches do not sit at the terminal for long. They wait at P41, about ten minutes' drive from the terminal, where they can stay for up to six hours and drivers have somewhere to rest and a toilet. The driver is called forward once your group is through, so a delayed landing or a slow baggage belt rarely becomes a problem for either side.

The S100 ring and getting into the canal belt

Since 1 January 2024, a coach heavier than 7.5 tonnes may only drive into Amsterdam's centre, within the S100 ring, if it holds an exemption. The ring takes in Nassaukade, De Ruijterkade and Stadhouderskade. Exemptions are reserved for certain groups, children under 12 among them, along with performing artists and passengers who are elderly or disabled. Most other groups use coach stops at the edge of the centre, at stations such as Amstel, Zuid, Sloterdijk, Holendrecht and RAI.

For a hotel on the Canal Ring, ask the operator where the vehicle can set down and whether the one quoted falls under the 7.5-tonne rule. Most coach stops allow ten minutes, and De Ruijterkade Oost fifteen, so the unloading needs to be brisk.

Hotels at Zuidas, RAI and Sloterdijk

Many conference and business groups stay outside the old centre anyway, at Zuidas and the RAI, in Sloterdijk or near Schiphol itself. Schiphol lies roughly 18 km out, generally a 20-40 minute drive, and the RAI has a coach stop, H40, close to the convention centre.

Can a coach drop us on the Canal Ring?

Only with an exemption if it weighs over 7.5 tonnes. Otherwise the operator will use an edge-of-centre stop or suggest a smaller vehicle.
