How the Bus Web Shop affects even a small van
A special traffic zone protects the area around the Old City, reaching from Ilijina glavica as far as Pile and Boninovo. Booking and payment through the Bus Web Shop is required for 7+1 and 8+1 seaters and for everything from 9 up to 30 seats or more, which means even an eight-seat van has to be booked. It is enforced during the main season, and also at peak periods and during events.
Once booked, a vehicle may stop only at the drop-off zones at Pile and Ploče. Every Dubrovnik plan hangs on that: the whole group steps out at the gate, the vehicle drives away, and later you meet it at the same spot.

Choosing between Pile and Ploče
Pile is the drop for Fort Lovrijenac, just outside the western walls, and a sensible place to begin a walk on the City Walls. For the cable car up Mount Srd or a boat to Lokrum from the Old Town harbour, ask the operator which gate suits your timings best.
Groups staying in Lapad, Babin Kuk, Gruz or Cavtat use the vehicle every day, so agreeing a regular pick-up time early saves a lot of messages later.
From Ruđer Bošković Airport
The Old Town lies roughly 20 km from Dubrovnik Airport; by road, reckon on 30-40 minutes. The airport shuttle takes about 35 minutes to reach Ploče Gate and Gruž bus station, whereas a private transfer drops you closer to your hotel, and with suitcases that matters a great deal.
Ston, Kotor and Mostar
Ston is roughly an hour's drive. Allow 2-3 hours for Kotor in Montenegro, border included, and 2.5-3 hours for Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, crossing included. Everyone needs a passport, and telling the operator your nationalities early keeps the border paperwork free of surprises.
