Florence airport private transfers and minibus hire

Florence's airport is small and very close to the city, which sounds simple. Coach access here is tightly controlled, though, and a little preparation keeps the short trip smooth.

The NCC desk and the four coach bays

Florence Airport, also known as Peretola or Amerigo Vespucci, has one terminal, and arrivals are on its ground floor. A consortium desk for NCC chauffeur cars is inside the terminal. At the airport bus station, by arrivals, coaches have just four bays, marked with yellow stripes.

Four bays is not many on a busy summer afternoon, so drivers time their arrival carefully. Keep the group together after baggage reclaim and walk out as one, rather than in twos and threes.

Why the contrassegno matters from the first kilometre

In Florence the ZTL Bus takes in the entire built-up city, day and night, so any coach heading into Florence from the airport needs a contrassegno bought online. The permit must be on display, and camera enforcement began on 1 July 2025. From 15 November 2025, a single parking fine bars the operator from buying permits for any of its vehicles for seven days, which is why careful operators follow the rules to the letter.

The airport is about 5 km from the centre, typically 15-25 minutes, so for small groups a minibus or van is often the most straightforward way in.

Getting close to your hotel

Coaches stop only at designated points, including Piazzale Michelangelo, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Savonarola, which is drop-off only, and Largo Vincenzo Giudice. For hotels near the Duomo or in Santa Croce, expect a walk from the nearest stop. Ask your hotel which one it recommends and pass that on, and we will make sure the operator plans around it.

Arriving through Pisa instead

Many groups fly into Pisa International Airport, about 85 km from Florence. A private transfer from Pisa takes you straight to the hotel without changing trains, and it can include a stop in Lucca on the way if you want to stretch your legs.
