Malpensa is a long way from Milan, so a comfortable vehicle and a well-timed pickup make a real difference. The airport's rules for waiting are strict, and that works in a group's favour.
A 15-minute pick-up area on the T1 arrivals floor
At Terminal 1, licensed chauffeur cars, and coaches fitted with Telepass, may use a pick-up area on the arrivals floor for up to 15 minutes. Overstaying brings penalties, so the driver will not sit there while your bags come off the belt. Instead, vehicles wait in the car parks, or for up to 60 minutes in an area between the terminals, and move up when your group is through.
Scheduled airport buses leave from their own bus area one floor down, on Level -1, so make sure nobody mistakes your transfer for a public service.

A 50 km drive into the city
The airport is about 50 km from Milan, usually 50-75 minutes by road. For that distance legroom and luggage space matter. A minibus with 16-19 seats handles a small team or family group well; a midi coach suits a corporate party of around 30. If you are travelling with a lot of sample cases or display material for a fair, mention it, because it may change the vehicle.
Area C and loading at your hotel
On weekdays between 07:30 and 19:30, Milan has two zones in force: Area C in the centre and the larger Area B around it. A tourist bus seating more than nine pays an Area C charge, which covers parking in bus areas, while Area B bars polluting vehicles from most of the city. Near major sights, fast-rotation bays are for getting on and off only, while a temporary pass gives up to 30 minutes to load near a hotel.
That half hour is generous enough for a relaxed hotel arrival, as long as the group is ready at the door.
Fiera Milano, Linate and Lake Como
For trade visitors, Fiera Milano, out in Rho to the northwest of the city, is a natural first stop. Milan Linate is only about 7 km from the centre if your plans involve a second airport. Leisure groups often continue to Lake Como, about 50 km from Milan, and a direct transfer saves a trip into the city and out again.
