The green sticker and the Umweltzone

Inside the S-Bahn ring, Berlin's environmental zone takes in about 88 km², and every vehicle entering it needs a green sticker, coaches registered abroad included. If your group is coming from another country with its own operator, check this before setting off; when the vehicle is arranged locally, the operator takes care of it. For a school group following the Wall sites or a stag party crossing Friedrichshain, that is one less thing to worry about.

Signed coach parking at the big sights

Coach parking is signed at many places groups want to reach in Berlin: Charlottenburg Palace, the Olympiastadion, Zoo station, Hauptbahnhof and the Brandenburg Gate. A visit to the Reichstag dome needs registering in advance, so sort it out before you travel. The same vehicle can take in the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse, Checkpoint Charlie and the East Side Gallery in a single day.

Arriving at BER

Berlin Brandenburg is about 27 km from the centre, 40 to 60 minutes by road. Only vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes are admitted to the pick-up zones at the terminal, so coaches and larger minibuses collect from Bus Stop B opposite Terminal 1. It is about 400 m, three minutes on foot, from T1 and about 600 m, seven minutes, from T2.

Trade fairs, the ZOB and day trips

Messe Berlin and CityCube sit opposite the ZOB, the central coach station, which makes hotel shuttles for exhibition teams simple to run. Out of town, Potsdam's Sanssouci and the Sachsenhausen Memorial are each about 35 km, the Spreewald at Lübbenau around 100 km, and Dresden about 190 km.

Questions

Does a coach from abroad need the Berlin green sticker?

Yes. Coaches registered outside Germany also need the green environmental sticker to enter the Umweltzone inside the S-Bahn ring.

Can the driver wait for us right outside the terminal at BER?

Only vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes may use the terminal pick-up zones. Coaches and larger minibuses meet their groups at Bus Stop B, a short walk from arrivals.

Can you run shuttles between our hotels and Messe Berlin?

Yes. The exhibition grounds and CityCube face the ZOB coach station, so a shuttle has an obvious place to set down and collect between sessions.

Is Dresden a sensible day trip from Berlin?

Yes, with an early start: it is about 190 km, two to two and a half hours in each direction. Once four and a half hours of driving are done, the driver must take a 45-minute break.
