Getting to the lagoon's edge during Carnival
Carnival does not change the road rules: coaches remain subject to Venice ZTL BUS, which needs an AVM pass for the restricted area. Without one, the Mestre bypass and the road to the airport are the only routes open to it. Inside the zone, stops are made only at authorised boarding areas and dedicated car parks.
A coach can park at Tronchetto for an hour at most, and from there the People Mover goes to Piazzale Roma, where the water buses leave and your walk to San Marco starts. The ZTL check-in points keep staff on hand from 06:00 until 20:15; at any other hour you buy the pass online, useful to know if your group gets in late in the evening.

Where you stay shapes the transfer
Staying in San Marco, Cannaregio or Dorsoduro puts you in the middle of things, but the vehicle leaves you at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, so plan help with bags for the water leg. A hotel in Mestre on the mainland keeps the road part short and makes a daily minibus into the edge of the city more practical.
Arriving at Marco Polo or Treviso
Venice Marco Polo Airport is about 13 km from Piazzale Roma, usually 20-30 minutes, and coaches meeting arrivals use the PBus zone north of the terminal building. Treviso Airport is about 40 km away. If your group is flying on Martedì Grasso, 9 February 2027, leave extra margin on that final day.
